5-Points Parkettes

It started with an idea - to tidy up some of our green spaces in 5-points.

From there, we started mowing and cleaning three triangles we call Parkettes.

On September 25, 2024, an email outlining our thoughts was sent through the Friends of Five Points list serve; if you did not receive it, let me know.

The ideas to enhance the Parkettes have evolved gently, but one idea was to install three high-quality benches in the parks. The three benches will cost in the neighborhood of $4,500.00

Many of our friends and neighbors have asked to be involved, and this page provides a way to donate to the cause.

There are no tax breaks, banners, or plaques with names of donors planned. We are simply providing a service to our wonderful neighborhood.

If you wish to donate, simply select an amount below or a custom amount and follow the instructions.

Once we have reached our target amount, donations will be closed.

Where are the Parkettes?

I don’t know about you, but we have found that doing something for the community makes everyone feel good. Five Points is an exceptional place, but as incredible as it is, it will only improve if we get involved. Some of you may grumble that the government should do this or that we should leave well enough alone - so be it.

Our little band of Parketteers disagrees, and we hope you will join us in funding this small project.

If you would like to join us in our efforts, over and above donating, please call Dick Haynes at 770-826-4611.

If you have any questions or inquiries, let us know.

 FAQs

  • If someone wishes to do so, they can purchase one of the benches and a plaque for $1250.00. Contact Cary Erickson at caryeri@gmail.com .

  • Two benches will be placed in the Milledge Circle Parkette, and one bench will be placed in the Cherokee Parkette.

  • The green spaces (Parkettes) looked bedraggled, tired, and unkempt, and while we could complain, we decided to get off our rear ends and start cleaning. We have mowed and cleaned up detritus, sticks, tree limbs, and even stumps from these areas.

We have been working with the people at Keep ACC Beautiful and Adopt Athens to keep these three Parkettes mowed and clean. ACC does mow these areas, but they do not have the staff and equipment to do so more than every six weeks. We have simply been complementing their efforts.

We love the idea of involvement in our community and have been discussing how to include our neighbors in this project.

  • Yes, we are working with Adopt Athens, a program developed by Athens-Clarke County. Adopt Athens will provide signage for each park with the name of the corresponding park.
