Armitage’s Great Garden Plants App 

Whether you are a new gardener or consider yourself an old pro, Armitage’s Great Garden Plants App is currently updated with new information on the best varieties, local garden centers and solution gardening advice such as Plants Deer Don’t Eat, IPM (Integrated Plant Management), targeted plants (natives, houseplants, cut flowers, plants with fragrance, what will attract pollinators) and more.

Below you will find a preview of select app pages, links to download the app, instructions on how to put your garden center on the app and a listing with links for all our partners who’ve generously lent their expertise in content and/or photos to make Armitage’s Great Garden Plants the go-to gardening app for home gardeners and green industry employees.

All America Selections: I love working with the people at AAS, who along with their sister group National Garden Bureau do invaluable work for the gardening community. We have teamed up so I can include their national winners (flowers and veggies) under the appropriate plant pages. 

American Horticultural Society: AHS is America's cheerleader for gardening and gardeners. I recommend their spirit, their magazine (American Gardener) and their programs. Membership includes so many bonuses that I have included a special page on the App so people can garden with AHS. 

Brent & Becky Bulbs: If I talk bulbs, I like to have this icon of the bulb world with me. Their recommendations appear on every page. All bulbs in the App can be directly ordered through the App with just a few clicks.

Brie Arthur (Foodscaping) brings this most popular trend to us. Brie is the most knowledgeable person in the field of “foodscaping”, sharing insight about the importance and pleasure of selecting ornamental plants that also have culinary value.

Herb Society of America: The popularity of herbs is skyrocketing, and the diversity for the gardener just keeps getting better. The experts at the HSA provide recommendations for the App.

Hoffman Nursery and Emerald Coast Nursery: Both these excellent wholesale nurseries are well known for their expertise in ornamental grasses.  I continually ask their advice on this large group of plants – the result is an wonderful selection of grasses for wildlife, non-invasiveness and ease of gardening.    

Lisa Steinkopf (Houseplants): Lisa has forgotten more about houseplants than I ever knew. Lisa shares her recommendations and secrets for success to all of us. The best houseplants for any part of the house and the newest varieties as well.

Maria Zampini of Upshoot LLC: Maria has been a very supportive and driving force in helping to bring my many projects to life. She grew up in the horticulture industry and leads one heck of a marketing firm. She is a also the author of Garden-pedia: An A-Z Guide to Gardening Terms. 

Master Nursery Garden Centers: Providing information about high quality garden centers is an important part of the App. Master Nursery works with hundreds of garden centers throughout the country. A special page "A's Thoughts on Great Garden Centers allows the user to locate these excellent businesses. 

Plantsmap.com: Plants Map allows anyone to solve the challenges of documenting, organizing, mapping, tagging and sharing information about the plants in your garden. It is a special site, designed and maintained by very special people. Be sure to check them out from the "Partner"s page.

Proven Winners: More success with less effort is the driving force of this excellent horticultural company. Not only are PW plants east to find at local garden centers, their extraordinary plants may be purchased online through the app with a single click.

Shannon Pable (Ferns): When I need a little help with ferns, I know where to turn. Shannon has been one of the fern experts at Georgia Perimeter College for years, working with the renown expert, George Sanko. They are both outstanding.

Shawna Coronado (Drought Resistant Plants): Shawna is a rock star; respected and admired wherever she speaks and works. Drought resistance will always be important and Shawna brings her expertise about selection of plants that tolerate drought.
